Transferring website to WordPress

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello! I have a couple of questions.

    1. I have a website with another registrar and web-creator. Is there a way I can transfer my current site to WordPress without having to recreate it from scratch?

    2. I’m located in Russia. Until 2018 I had my website at Weebly, but one day without any notification they blocked access to my website from any Russian IPN addresses. So I had to re-do my whole site from scratch with a local website-creator. If I move my website to WordPress, will it be accessible to the whole world?

    Best regards, Tatyana

  • Hi,

    1. What sitebuilder did you use for your previous site? Was it the WordPress software available from WordPress.org? If so, we have instructions here:

    https://wordpress.com/support/moving-from-self-hosted-wordpress-to-wordpress-com/

We also have importers for other site builders:

    https://wordpress.com/support/import/

But if the site builder you used is not listed and cannot export in a compatible format, then I’m afraid you will need to rebuild your site.

    2. We want WordPress.com sites to be accessible to as much of the world as possible. But from time to time governments around the world decide to block various parts of the internet from their citizens. WordPress.com is not immune to this and sadly, cannot stop it from happening.
