Transferring wordpress to a new host

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I’m currently trying to move all data from the wordpress.com hosted site to a new server installation of wordpress, the normal export function leaves a good amount of database or theme data and the import to the new site (not hosted on wordpress.com) appears broken. I am unable to install plugins on the currently free subscription of the wordpress.com site to try other export methods. Is there anyone here who could help me figure out what needs to be done? Thank you.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

We have a support document to help with transferring your WordPress.com site to your own host:
    https://move.wordpress.com/

The export from your WordPress.com site will contain your posts, pages, comments, categories, tags, and references to your site’s images.
It will not include your theme and we do not have access to the database on WordPress.com. But you can make use of the same theme on your self-hosted blog.

Eg. Your website appraisalassociatesark.wordpress.com makes use of Sela theme which you can download at this link if you go to the very bottom –
    https://wordpress.com/theme/sela

I hope this helps clarify things.

  • Hi –

Please review what is included with your site export from WordPress.com.

    Export Your Website’s Content

These are the complete instructions to move from WordPress.com to running your own WordPress installation. It’s much more hands on, and there isn’t a dedicated team for support. You’ll need to use the community forums that are at https://wordpress.org/support/ for help.

The theme will need to be downloaded here: https://wordpress.org/themes/

Take the time to review this information as well. It’s a lot of reading but will be a great help to you for getting started on this new site.
