Transferring WordPress to Bluehost

  • Unknown's avatar

I recently created a website using WordPress, but have set up web hosting through Bluehost. When I export my website from WordPress and import into Bluehost, the theme seems to change and my website appears very differently then what I had initially made.
Is there any way to host my WordPress site on Bluehost by keeping the same format?

    Thanks for any help!

    Hi, @alihhaidar2
Your site is not hosted here, on WordPress.com, but using the open source WordPress.org software at another hosting provider (Bluehost):

For general help with the version of WordPress you’re using, you can ask the WordPress.org community over at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

The other option: you can ask the support of your hosting.

You can read more about the differences between WordPress.org software and WordPress.com here:

    Cheers.

  • Hi there,

Are you exporting from the site at https://hadishawarma.wordpress.com/?

What you describe is completely normal an expected. The file you exported from the WordPress.com site contains only your site content, i.e. posts, pages, media files and comments. It does not include your theme or your site settings – those cannot be exported from WordPress.com to a site at another host.

You’ll need to install the theme you want to use on your new Bluehost site, and manually configure it according to the theme’s instructions.

If you want to continue using the Rockfield theme you have on your WordPress.com site, the simplest way to do that is to install the Jetpack plugin on your new site. After you connect Jetpack to your WordPress.com account, your new site will be listed in your account here under My Sites, and then you can just activate that theme at My Site ->Design ->Themes, same as on your WordPress.com site.

Or otherwise you can download that theme from the theme page at https://wordpress.com/theme/rockfield and manually install it on your new site. Note you’ll have to download and install both Rockfield and Varia, as Rockfield needs the Varia parent theme to work.
