Transferring WordPress.com followers to new wordpress.org self hosted site

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello,

After reading the wordpress.com and .org forums, I see that I need to contact wordpress.com support in order to transfer my followers from my wordpress.com site to my new wordpress.org site. I am confused on how to do this, as the only options seems to be support “forums”. Is there an email or another way to contact? This is the only way I’ve found to transfer the followers. Any help would be great

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Provided you have installed and activated the JetPack plugin http://jetpack.me on your WordPress.org install, and you have posted the relevant URL(s) into a forum thread, Staff will do the transfer of both subscribers and stats for you. I tagged this thread for their attention.

Have you installed and activated JetPack?
What is the URL or are the URLs?

    Hi there,

I see that you have a WordPress.org site using Jetpack on your account, but I don’t see any WordPress.com blogs. What is the URL for your WordPress.com blog that you want the followers transferred from? I’ll need you to confirm from that WordPress.com account that you want your followers transferred.

Please let me know if you have any questions about that!

The URL for my wordpress.com blog was http://www.morethanjustdessert.com (same as my wordpress.org), I switched over the nameservers. Should I be looking for another URL to give you to switch my followers? Does it help if I give you my wordpress.com username? It was morethanjustdessert

I may be confused about something. I did have trouble transferring my wordpress.com “blog” to my wordpress.org (it wouldn’t let me authorize the transfer to another user, i could only import my old posts). Is this why my wordpress.com blog doesn’t show up? How do I fix that?

Thank you so much for all of your help!

Sorry for multiple messages, but I tried to use my old “morethanjustdessert” username to get into my old wordpress.com dashboard and it wouldn’t let me log in. I only have my new “morethanjustdessert2013” username that is linked to my wordpress.org blog. I think? Am I correct on this?

My blog address for my old free wordpress.com was http://morethanjustdessert.com (i had bought the domain). It is the same URL for my wordpress.org.

Did I miss a link somewhere in trying to transfer my wordpress.com “authority” to wordpress.org? Is this why you can’t find my blog URL? Sorry for multiple questions, just curious what I am missing! Thanks again for all of the help in trying to transfer my followers!

Hi there, thanks for letting me know that you used the same custom domain for your WordPress.com blog. That helps me look up your blog in our system.

Should I be looking for another URL to give you to switch my followers? Does it help if I give you my wordpress.com username? It was morethanjustdessert

Since you had your WordPress.com blog on a different username, you’ll need to log in with that username and reply here to confirm that you want your followers transferred from that blog to your new one. This just confirms to us that you own both blogs. :)

WordPress.com and WordPress.org are different entities, so you can’t use the WordPress.com system to transfer a blog to another user if you are moving to WordPress.org. You need to export the WordPress.com blog and import it into the new WordPress.org blog. So don’t worry, you did everything right there! The WordPress.com blog just doesn’t show up on your account because it’s actually linked to a different username/account.

Sorry for multiple messages, but I tried to use my old “morethanjustdessert” username to get into my old wordpress.com dashboard and it wouldn’t let me log in.

Please make sure you are logging in at WordPress.com with your morethanjustdessert username and password. If you have trouble logging in, please try resetting your password at this link:

If you have any trouble with that, let me know!

Ok, I was able to log in with my wordpress.com username (morethanjustdessert) with my new password. This post should be from my morethanjustdessert account and I am confirming the transfer of followers from my morethanjustdessert account to my wordpress.org account listed above. Is this what I am suppose to do? Or is there something else I need to do to confirm this?

    Thank you so much

Thanks, that’s exactly what we needed! I just transferred your followers to your WordPress.org blog at morethanjustdessert.com, as requested.

Your email followers will continue to receive email updates, and your WordPress.com followers will continue to see your new posts in the Reader. If your WordPress.com followers would like to receive email updates, as well, they can subscribe via email on your new blog.

Please let me know if you have any questions about that!
