Transition existing site to WordPress eCommerce

I have a website already, but it was created by a web designer years ago and I can’t get in touch with him. I can’t make any updates to my current site, so I want to build a new eCommerce site using WordPress. I already have a domain name and host for my existing site, but I don’t want to set up the WordPress site with this information yet because my current site is live and active. What is the easiest way to do this? I don’t have any access to the current files, so I will be manually adding all the photos/content to the new site.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If you’re interested in using WordPress.com for an ecommerce site, you will first need the Business upgrade, and then you will need to choose one of our ecommerce partner platforms for the shopping cart functionality.

You can read more about it here:

    Hi Jackie,

Thanks for responding. I’m actually more concerned on how to adjust the hosting and domain information. All the posts I’ve read say you need these first before you can start building, but because my site is currently live, I don’t want the domain to point to WordPress until it’s 100% ready. Is there a way to set up my WordPress first without having the domain and hosting?

I can only assist you with a site hosted on WordPress.com. If you are planning to host your site and ecommerce with a different hosting provider, then that’s a different matter, and there are additional options for ecommerce if you self-host.

However, your website can exist independently of any ecommerce option, so by all means, you can start developing that, whether it’s here or elsewhere, and build in the ecommerce when you’re ready.
