Transition existing website and use my old domain

    Sorry for the very basic question, but I want to build a new website for my existing domain. How do I build a new website here without essentially having a gap in service as I am building the new site from the ground up?

    Hi there, you’re welcome to create your new site with us before pointing the domain here. That way your current site can stay “live” until your new one is ready.

    Each site on our servers comes with a free subdomain, so you can use that to get started.

    I do recommend getting a plan earlier on if you’ll need it, since they have other features you might find useful, including direct support:
    https://wordpress.com/plans

    Then just avoid using the custom domain options, and you can map or transfer the domain when you’re ready.
