Transition new wordpress to old domain name?
-
I’m a WordPress novice, but I’ve been using Dreamweaver to maintain a website — sherwoodtenn.com and I want to transition to WordPress. I hope to be able to do this with very little interruption. Here is how I plan to do this. Will this work?
1. Gradually over a couple of weeks, transfer content and files from http://www.sherwoodtenn.com to the WordPress site http://sherwoodtenn.wordpress.com.”
2. Once the WordPress site is ready, transfer the old domain from Yahoo to Bluehost.
3. Transfer http:www.sherwoodtenn.wordpress.com to Bluehost using the old domain name http://sherwoodtenn.com.

Sounds like you’re adding more work then you need.
Why are you setting up your website on wordpress.com if you’re going to move it to bluehost hosting?
Do you want to have a self hosted WordPress site (wordpress.org) or do you want to host your site on wordpress.com?
You can setup your bluehost account and start setting everything up there without your domain name. Eliminating step 1 and 3.
And in most cases (check with yahoo), when transferring a domain name it doesn’t effect where it points. Meaning your domain ‘should’ still point to your website on Yahoo when you transfer it to Bluehost.
