Transitionin to wordpress.org

I am having issues still installing my custom theme.

  • Hi there,

Installing a custom theme on WordPress.com requires the Business Plan, and you cancelled your Business Plan on 10 May. If you want to install a custom theme to your WordPress.com site again, you’ll need to purchase a new Business Plan first.

If you’re trying to set up a self-hosted WordPress site with a different hosting provider instead, please post in the WordPress.org forums, as we’re not able to help with that version of WordPress here.

    Hi there,

I did have the Business Plan. A rep also had reviewed the theme I wanted to install, including the requirements needed for the theme to be supported successfully. The rep not only said that requirements can be met, but gave me confidence in proceeding accordingly. I even purchased another url domain because apparently wordpress.com doesn’t work with sub-domains (a disappointing feature considering how much you pay for this service). After a week of setting up wordpress.com and starting to upload the theme, I realized that wordpress.com simply didn’t accept my theme. All previous efforts had been a complete waste of time and I have the conversations saved as evidence. After addressed the last issue about uploading the theme, they then proceeded in “advising” me to switch to wordpress.org – rendering all my previously efforts useless. My money was refunded however, I am still in this state of confusion since apparently there’s no way for me to delete my account and have no support to transition to wordpress.org. Even after spending over $400 in less than a week, I was left without support to transition to wordpress.org – ironic being that this problem stemmed from the poor advice from and lack of capabilities of wordpress.com.

I have since gone to GoDaddy to do a wordpress hosting. They confirm everything is set, however, when I go to my wp-admin, it seems everything still connects with my constrained wordpress.com account. So I’m back with wordpress.com, still with no functionality, and now even less support.

Please advise. I want to install my theme, being hosted on GoDaddy, using wordpress.org. No idea why I continue to be referred to wordpress.com, where I am unable to delete the account. This is tremendously confusing, time-wasting, and inefficient.

Is this with your subdomain, auction.juloexchange.com? The CNAME record you used to create that subdomain is still pointing to your WordPress.com site. You need to change that CNAME record to point to GoDaddy instead, or replace it with an A record using GoDaddy’s IP address. GoDaddy will be able to tell you exactly what the record should be to connect your subdomain to them.

These changes need to be made at GoDaddy, as it appears the root domain is both registered and hosted with them.

After making the changes, please allow a few hours for it to update, and then also clear your browser cache. Then you should be able to load your self-hosted site’s dashboard via that domain.
