Transitioning from Classic to Bloc Editor

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello. I’m starting the process of converting from classic to block editing. I have the classic plugin, and have read the support document Convert from the Classic to the Block Editor.

What is not made clear in the support document is whether I can shuttle back and forth between the editors, converting one page or post at a time, and still be able to use the classic editor for content that has yet to be converted.

If someone can clarify this, I would be most grateful! :)

    Hey, there!

What is not made clear in the support document is whether I can shuttle back and forth between the editors, converting one page or post at a time, and still be able to use the classic editor for content that has yet to be converted.

Once you convert the page contents from Classic to Block editor, modifying it again with the Classic editor is impossible.

You can, however, use the Classic block from Block editor like this:

    WP

The Classic block replicates an older editing experience while inside the WordPress block editor. This guide will show you how to use it on your site. Add the Classic Block To add the Classic block, click on the + Block Inserter icon and search for “classic.” Click it to add the block to the post or page. 💡 Using your keyboard, you can also type /classic on a new line and pre

    💡 In short:

    • Block Editor can edit pages and posts built with Block Editor and Classic Editor
    • Classic Editor can edit pages and posts built with Classic Editor only

    I hope this helps! 😊

Hey, thanks for this response. I’m pleased to learn about the classic ‘bloc’ for when I need it.

My questions was directed, however, at a slightly different concern. Let me rephrase.

Because of time constraints, I can only convert from classic to bloc slowly, one page at a time. Especially because of image and text alignment issues that will take time to resolve.

So if I convert page A to bloc editing, I still want to be able to access pages B, C, etc. with the classic editor until I have time to convert them too.

Is this possible, or does using the bloc editor on page A force one to use it on all other pages going forward?

  • Hi @williamlynn

Thanks for further clarifying your request.

I’ve enabled the possibility of choosing the editor that you’d like to use when editing a page.

This way, the editor is not set globally to all pages and you can choose which editor can be used with each of your pages.

You need to access the classic WP-admin view of your pages from here: https://panworks.io/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=page and then, hover over the page to choose the editor.

    Hope this helps!
