Transitioning from my old website to a website on WordPress

How do I make a smooth transition from my old website to a new one at WordPress? When I “map an existing domain” (I currently use Artspan), will that shut down traffic to my website there? (SheilaFinchFineArt.com). Will I have “down” time until my website at WordPress is set up?
    Thank you.

    Hi sheilafinch,

My recommendation would be to setup the site on WordPress.com and get it to how you like, with as much of the content moved if that’s what you are doing.

Once you setup the domain mapping and change the name servers to point to WordPress.com then you won’t be able to access your old website through your domain name anymore.

There can be a 24-72 hour period when you change your name servers before the change takes effect across the internet. But during that time people would still be directed to your old site until the change propagates.

So as long as you have the new site all setup when you make the switch you should have no down time.

    Hope that helps.
