Translation

Hi! First off, WORDPRESS is fucking brilliant. Thank you!

Secondly…I am at the finish line of creating my new site and need advice on translation. Right now the site is in English, but the primary language will be Spanish and I would like to add in my translations according to local tongue.

    1) How do I access/create a custom template/translation page so I can switch back and forth between SPA/ENG with SPA being the primary language. I have some translations specific to Puerto Rico, which I imagine will not be correct when using the WORDPRESS translation system, but maybe not.

    2) Is there a SPA/ENG button I can put on there? I am using the NIGIRI template.

    Thanks! -Matteo

    Hi Matteo!

Here’s some suggestions I’ve come up with to help you:

First, you could change the interface/blog language of your site to Spanish, so that everyone that views your site will automatically see it in Spanish. Instructions to do so are here. Then, you can write your blog posts with the Puerto Rican dialect to ensure they are correct.

The Google Translate Widget would allow users to translate your website to whatever language, regardless of what the blog language is set to. So, this could be the SPA/ENG button you are looking for. I’m not sure if there would be any issues with translating the dialect, you could always test some things out in Google Translate and see how it goes:)

You could also set up a Multilingual Site. So, you’d have English and Spanish versions and not have to worry about any nuances in translation. There’s many ways to do this and it’s mainly up to how you want your site, so check that link out and maybe you’ll find the perfect solution.

Hope this helps and let me know if you have any other questions or help setting up your site!
