I’m looking to buy “Promemade” Theme that have “Translation Ready” capabilities.
Can you give me more detail of what that means? Will I be able to handle my translation by my self?
Will I have an icon that appear to switch language easily?

    Regards

    Hi there,

Any theme at WordPress.com, including the Promenade theme, can be translated. The translations are shared by everyone with a site hosted at WordPress.com, and anyone can contribute to those translations. We have more details about how the translation process works in our Translation FAQ.

You can access the Promenade theme’s translations here:

    https://translate.wordpress.com/projects/wpcom/themes/promenade

Once a theme is at least 85% translated into a particular language, its translations are launched so you’ll see them on your site. The language that’s used for your site is based on your site’s language in its General Settings.

Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

Alright, then right now I’m using Sela theme and have set it to “French” language. I saw on translate.wordpress.com that French was 90% translated. From there where on my site I will have the possibility to switch between French and English?

    Regards

    Hi Mathieu,

Since you have French selected, everything that has been translated into French will display in French. Like this information:

But anywhere the WordPress content has not been translated, it will display in English.

If you want to provide your own content (not just the WordPress and theme content) in both French and English, you’ll need translate that content on your own. Here’s a guide for setting that up:

First of all, Thanks Alex G for the last reply it was very helpful.
But I’m still having a hard time trying to change the Primary Menu depending of my language.
at the bottom of this link :
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/set-up-a-multilingual-blog/
    It give this site :
    http://arboretumpouyouleix.com/about-us/
as an example. This exactly what I’m looking for.
I have swap to The Edin Theme to make sure I have the same behavior. But can’t find how this site manage to change the language on the Primary Menu. (Home to Page D’accueil …)?

    Thanks again

    Hi Mathieu,

That site made the ‘Page d’accueil’ item by first creating a Page titled “Arboretum des Pouyouleix”

    That page lives here:

    Arboretum des Pouyouleix

Then, they made a Custom Menu. In that custom menu, they added the Page item for “Arboretum des Pouyouleix”.

After adding it, they edited the menu item’s name to ‘Page d’accueil’.

    Thanks again Alex,

but I still don’t get how this site manage to have it’s Primary Menu, support 2 languages. Is it by adding all pages (english and French) to the same custom menu and handling visibility of which pages will be display on memu or having 2 custom Menu and changing which menu is active depending of which pages is displayed?
In short term, what happened when we click on Français or English?

    Thanks

    Mathieu

    Hi Mathieu,

That site’s menu is setup like this example:

ENGLISH and FRANÇAIS are their two main items, all the other links are sub-items in the menu.

In their theme, Edin, the navigation then actually appears like these, in dropdowns:

But they use a lot of custom CSS to display the options all the time, instead of in dropdowns.
