There is no feature filter I can use to answer your first question. And if you note the yellow banner at the top of the forums you will see that Themes Staff will probably respond to you here after Monday, 1/4 at 9:00 AM EST.

P.S. See this theme please https://wordpress.com/themes/pique/ as it may be what you are looking for. The live demo site is here https://piquedemo.wordpress.com/

Several themes display text directly on top of a background image – assuming that’s what you mean – but as timethief mentioned this isn’t something we can search for in the directory.
Along with Pique, as she mentioned above, other themes you might want to look at are:
Harmonic – https://harmonicdemo.wordpress.com/
Afterlight – https://afterlightdemo.wordpress.com/As timethief mentioned above, you’d need custom CSS to introduce transparency to a specific area in a theme which doesn’t have it by default. The exact CSS code you’d need would vary depending on the theme. If you decide to upgrade your site, you can then post in the CSS Customization forum, mentioning the theme you need help with, and which area you’d like to make transparent.

@timethief – you’ve been a lot of help to me before so I was hoping I could be a bother once more. I posted a question on the forum this morning and it was immediately closed upon submission. I just tried to post another right now to find out why the first one was closed, and when I submitted the post it did not even show up at all, just took me to an advertisement. Any idea what might be happening?
(Apologies to everyone for hijacking this post, but it’s kind of hard to ask for help if I cannot post a question.)
