Trash and Spam

I don’t understand why I have perfectly acceptable comments that automatically end up in trash. That is bad enough. Lately, when I go to the trash to see if there are comments waiting that need to be approved, I have a very lengthy spam message from a bible website. I must have received at least 2 dozen of the exact same message in my trash folder. I keep sending them to spam, yet spam hasn’t figured out that I shouldn’t even be receiving these in my trash bin. What can I do???? I realize I can block them — I’ve done it. But, they still go to trash where co-existing with this garbage are perfectly normal comments from legitimate readers.

  • Hi there,

I don’t understand why I have perfectly acceptable comments that automatically end up in trash.

There are only two ways a comment can land in Trash: either you deleted the comment, or the comment matches a condition in your comments blacklist, which would cause it to be automatically deleted. If legitimate comments are being deleted, it means your blacklisting rules are too broad. Only you have control over that.

Lately, when I go to the trash to see if there are comments waiting that need to be approved

Why would you look in the trash folder for comments awaiting approval? The trash folder is for deleted comments, not for comments awaiting approval. Those comments go to the Pending Approval folder.

I realize I can block them — I’ve done it. But, they still go to trash where co-existing with this garbage are perfectly normal comments from legitimate readers.

Adding something to the comment blacklist causes comments that match the blacklisting conditions to be deleted, which will send them to the Trash folder. Deleted comments are not filtered to spam, because they are deleted. That’s how it’s supposed to work.
