  Hello, I would like to have a trial to build a site and see if WordPress is good for me before I buy a subscription. Could that be set up?

  Start with a free plan with a subdomain address ending in .wordpress.com. You can upgrade that site later if you wish to register/map/transfer a custom domain to it.
