Hello @nsyctest,
nsyc.net is a website likely to be using an open source WordPress software which is hosted outside WordPress.com.
Firstly, I would like to let you know that there are two types of WordPress. WordPress.com (where you are now ) and WordPress( nsyc.net is likely to be built) are separate entities with different documentation and support forums. You can learn more about that in the following support guide:
In any case, if you are planning to bring over nsyc.net over to WordPress.com and hence in the process of learning this platform, yes you can upgrade to a WordPress.com plan that is suitable for your business in mind. There are no free trials or monthly upgrade plans available here at WordPress.com. You have to upgrade to a plan to explore the features and if you wish to refund, it is possible within a 30 day period from the date of purchase.
the free account doesn’t allow me to edit the site to the level of ‘backing up’ widget won’t be installed
You do not require a separate widget or plugin installed to take site backups here on WordPress. All WordPress.com sites including the free sites with a subdomain option come with premium hosting, security and backups included. If you are looking forward to exploring installing plugins, third-party themes etc you require a Business plan upgrade here on WordPress for that particular feature.
can I get a 30 day trial??
WordPress.com offers a full refund for 30 days, but remember they do not provide pro-rated refunds if you cancel after 30 days.
More details in https://en.support.wordpress.com/manage-purchases/On an ending note, I suggest you begin by understanding the type of WordPress you wish to take over nsyc.net with. After which, you explore the plans and their features to determine what suits your sites requirements.
Hope this helps.
Please feel free to reply to this post if you have more questions. We will be happy to help.
All the best with any choice you make.
