I set up a wordpress blog to share a canoe expedition I did a few years ago. I paid a little extra then to be able to include some videos. I was not adding to it each year so did not pay the upgrade each year. I completed another expedition this spring and thought I would add it to my site. Now the only offer of an upgrade is 40% off! a bundle of everything for about $90 each year.Is this really my only option?
If so I feel entrapped, it is not worth it for one blog so I will not go ahead. Having previously encouraged others to use WordPress (I am vocal and convincing) I will be discouraging it and pointing out the opportunistic profiteering on social media. I may be well behind the times but only just found out.

You can upload your videos to YouTube (or any of these other services) and embed them in your blog posts. The upgrade just lets you upload your videos directly to your WordPress.com media library which isn’t necessary to share them with your viewers.

I signed up and started a post but have not been able to get a thing posted. This post probably want even go through. It’s driving me crazy. I’m just about ready to quite. I’m having problems with everything. Passwords, username you name it i have no luck at all sometimes it takes me forever to find my own blogs. help please

The pricing is a new Up-sell policy for new blogs, sounds like even older blogs are now being upsold for $ 99.- with extra stuff you don’t want, need or can afford.
Not a well liked policy and one that is costing WordPress.COM a lot of good will
You can also put videos on Vimeo and some other services and embed them here also

The individual upgrades still have store pages, here is the one for VideoPress so it’s not necessary to go onto the premium plan if you only need part of what it offers.

Many people are reporting they are being redirected to the up-sell screens, staff have said existing upgrades will be able to be renewed, but people with older blogs have also been reporting up-selling issues – it is not a popular policy and has cost WordPress.COM a lot of trust

There are a few other options for putting videos in your posts. We offer easy ways to embed videos from many sources including YouTube, Vimeo, and Hulu. You can see our full list of video sources here:

@shawnajroberts – we have a regular stream of people through the forum – they started a blog for a group some time back – they are now leaving the group and the blog is getting transferred to a new person with a brand new account – when the blog is transferred to the new account – will the renewal of a single upgrade be possible or will they now get screwed with the new Cable TV pricing Up-Sell and the renewal require the package with stuff they really don’t want and can’t use?

Any previously purchased upgrades will not be affected, so these types of transfers will be unaffected. If you see any issues with this, just modlook the thread and we can take a look.

The question is what happens at the renewal – new account old blog – single upgrade that is now part of a package – can it be renewed with the single pricing?
We see the transfer for renewal reasons all the time

They’ll be able to renew the transferred upgrade as is. They will not have to purchase a plan in order to renew and individual upgrade that was transferred to their new account.
Does that clarify things?

Thanks everyone, particularly auxclass for fighting my corner. I will try it another day and report back.
None of this was apparent when i tried to add storage/video facility. I do not want my stuff on youtube or vimeo but may have to put up with it.
