Tried to change the URL on my primary blog & it has gone horribly wrong

I own 3 blogs & wanted to get rid of 1, then use the URL from that one on one of the remaining two. Searched the help function & it showed how to do it & it seemed very straight forward. Only problem is it didn’t turn out like I thought it would! The instructions said that I will always have the domain name dreamsonpapyrus (which is the one I want to get rid of, but use the name on ceinwenn.wordpress.com, instead of ceinwenn), so I changed the name on dreamsonpapyrus to some random thing that I will never use. All that seems to have accomplished is creating another blog on my dashboard list of blogs & I cannot use the name dreamsonpapyrus on my other blog as is says that dreamsonpapyrus still exists. So, I did it again. Oops, same result!

Looked at deleting the one blog I no longer want, only it says that I will never be able to use the url dreamsonpapyrus ever again.

What can I do??? I have 182 posts on the ceinwenn.wordpress.com blog, so manually transferring them to the dreamsonpapyrus blog doesn’t make sense. Anyone got any ideas??

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Is no one able to help?

I can’t even make out what’s going on here. I flagged it for staff attention, but without a diagram I don’t know what any non-staff person can do to help you.

Thanks raincoaster. Hopefully someone on the staff will be able to help!

  • Hi Ceinwenn,

Sorry for the long wait for a reply. So, it sounds like you’ve got three wordpress.com blogs, with no custom domains, correct?

So, you can’t delete a WordPress.com URL and ever use it again. What you can do is export the content from the blog you want to keep the content of and then import it into the URL you want to keep. If you think of your blog URL that you want to keep as the cover of a really cool Trapper Keeper (a binder from the 80s) that you want everyone to see and associate with your content, and the other blog content as a notebook that you’re going to put into the binder – it works like that. You don’t throw away your binder and get a new one – you just put new content in.

These are the specific instructions you want:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-between-wordpress-com-blogs

So, go to the blog whose content you want and go to Tools > Export and create an XML file. You just have to download it to your desktop.

Then, go to the blog whose URL you want, go to Tools > Import and choose WordPress and select the XML file from your desktop and let it import. It will take a few minutes.

Then all your good content will be with the blog URL you want!

I hope that makes sense, but let me know if you have any additional questions!
