I have a very small blog with few followers, however I notice a disproportion ‘likes’ come from Russia. Can I block Russian communications? Am I being trolled. Do you look for fake accounts? Check out JenniferRiaz@jenniferriaz, thecontent on this page has nothing to do with my site, totally unrelated, yet this address follows me. Can you check this out?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi @jeankruegerfineart.

One of the benefits of having a public website is the ability to reach other people across the world, and having likes and followers from diverse areas does not necessarily indicate ill intent or trolling.

I do know that the issue of spam likes, many of them coming from russian sites (sites with .ru addresses) was brought up earlier this year in the forums. In this thread from April of this year, staff member @kokkieh said:

We are aware of the issue and working on getting these spam likes blocked.

You do have the ability to turn off “likes” for your entire site if you’d like or just on individual posts/pages/media, but do not have the ability to control the geographic location of those using them.

You can find the option to turn them off for your entire site in your Sharing Setting, under the Buttons tab. Uncheck the “Show like button” and click on the blue “Save Changes” button to remove them.

If you are interested in removing them more granularly for just some of your site, you can find directions on the Likes support page under the heading “Turn Likes On/Off on Specific Posts or Pages.”

As far as the user following you that has a site with content unrelated to your own, I don’t think this is necessarily uncommon or cause for worry. I know I often follow sites that are about topics that are not at all related to the topics I post on my own site. We all have many different interests. :)

Of course, if you are uncomfortable with a follower for any reason you are able to remove them by visiting My Site > People > Followers and clicking the remove link next to their name.
