Trouble adding a submenu

  • Unknown's avatar

    My blog is here https://alymcf.wordpress.com
I recently added this Post https://alymcf.wordpress.com/2018/06/19/smol-flowerz/
and then wanted to create a new submenu under “Paintings” called “Gallery: Smol Flowerz”. The process of adding the submenu added and Published a new Page https://alymcf.wordpress.com/gallery-smol-flowerz/
and I couldn’t figure out how to make this new page be the same page as the post I already did, so I just linked to it.
I realize in retrospect that Pages and Posts are different, and I should have created the menu page, then added my post content to that.

Is there anything I can do to fix this other than delete the Post, after copying and pasting everything over to the Page?

I use Reddle theme if it matters.

    Thanks.

  • Hi –

    I’m happy to help.

I think there are 2 simple-ish options to persue.

    1. Link the post directly in to that menu item. Here’s more information on creating custom menus:

I can help add the post link to the menu if you like. Basically your going to link the post directly and change the menu text to whatever it should say.

    2. Embed the post on to to the page that you’ve already created and linked in the menu. Pasting the link there should do the trick.

Thanks for your willingness to help.

I’m not sure I understand either option.

In 1, you said something about custom menus but I don’t see any instructions. When I view Appearance> Menus there’s nothing obvious there that would allow me to make a link to my Post.

In 2, when I attempt to edit https://alymcf.wordpress.com/gallery-smol-flowerz/ I don’t see any embed options.

Hi, here is the link to our Custom Menus support page. You can add posts, pages, categories, etc. to the custom menu. When you click the “add Items button, you will see Posts in the list. Click on that and a scrollable list of all your published posts will come up for you to choose from.

You can add a link to the post into the page content area also, which is what staff-zinnia meant in #2.
