trouble adding feedburner “subscribe to this blog” widget
-
okay, I searched, read, thought I did everything right but….what I want is a way for visitors to “subscribe” to my blog, i.e. they get an email when there’s a new post. I’ve seen some wordpress blogs with such a thing, like
www.financeisfun.wordpress.com
I went to feedburner, signed up, copied their widget code into a text widget, and mine just says “Enter your email address:Delivered by FeedBurner” with no place for a user to put the email address. Any help? -
I’ve done it several times and used this procedure from the FAQ’s: http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/10/11/how-can-i-offer-email-updates/
-
I did see that FAQ in this closed thread
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=2415&replies=24, and I thought I followed the simple instructions, but the widget code did not creat a place for subscribers to eneter their email addresses or a link to a place to subscribe. The only link it created is the “powered by feedburner” link, which leads to the feedburner homepage. -
Yes, I believe the readers will have to go to the Feedburner page to put that in. WordPress.com doesn’t allow forms and such.

That is correct. Forms are not allowed on wordpress so the link will take them to a form to enter their email address at feedburner. -
I could have worded the last part of that better. The link will take them to feedburner where they will enter their email address.

I think I fixed it (I must’ve copied the wrong code before). I now have the “click here” link (reworded in my own pithy prose) which takes them to a page where they enter their email address. So far, so good; but I subscribed myself and made a new test post, so I can see what the email, the feed and so on looks like, but so far, no contact……

There will most likely be a delay from the time you publish a post until Feedburner’s service sends out the notification email because they aren’t constantly monitoring feeds. You’ll need to contact Feedburner.

thanks dew,
I did check the feedburner forums, where I was told that the email goes out at a specific time, so if I had posted after that time, I might be waiting close to a full day for the email. That said, I never got the email after my first “post-feedburner” post, but i did get one after the second. Just FYI to you future topic searchers out there.
