Trouble adding “Site Meter” to my blog

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ve just read a whole string of comments about adding “Site Meter” to a wordpress.com blog from 2006. I’m having trouble adding the widget to my blog. The instructions start with:

    # Login to your account on WordPress.com
    # Select “My Dashboard”.
    # Select “Blogroll”.

There IS NO “Blogroll”. I have selected the icon that does not show the amount of visitors. I just want the icon on my blog so when I click it, it will go right to my stats on “Site Meter”.

    Thank you for any help.

The sitemeter instructions refer to an older version of wordpress.com.

First, go to Manage > Link Categories on your dashboard. Create a category called “Sitemeter”.
Then, go to Manage > Links, add a new link, using the URL in the sitemeter instructions, also add the URL in the image address in the Advanced settings. Make sure you assign the Sitemeter category to this link. Save, and it should work.

    wpvstp,
I did everything you said and the sitemeter logo show up in my blog roll but when i click on it, it goes to the main page of the site, not my personal stats.

I thought that from my end, when I click on it, it would go directly to my stats, as if I’m signed in there. I also thought when others click it, they would just go to site meter’s main page as a visitor.

Am I wrong in thinking this?

Thanks for your help so far!!!

YOu are wrong: if you put Sitemeter on your blog, EVERYONE will be able to see your stats. Not sure that’s what you want to do, but it should be doable.

I am guessing here, but I think you may have to wait till Sitemeter’s been active on your site for a day before it goes to your main stat page. It all looks correct from what I can see; it hasn’t counted you yet, and I think that’s why it’s bouncing to the main page. I could be wrong, but that’s my best guess.

Thanks raincoaster. I’ll give it 24 hours and see how it is tomorrow. If things don’t work out, I’ll come back here to see if anyone can help. I always appreciate your help (you’ve helped me many times before!).

    And thank you wpvstp!

I just check Site Meter’s “Privacy Levels” and if you choose “medium” this is what happens:

Your visitors can’t see any of your site reports and charts but the information in the “General Summary” report may be used and displayed in public lists or rankings with other sites (for example: a list of sites ranked by their average daily visits).
If someone clicks on the Site Meter counter on your page, it will not take them to your statistics page. But if you are logged into Site Meter, clicking on your counter will take you to your site’s statistics page. Everyone else will be sent to the Site Meter home page.

Visitors will only see your stats if you choose “normal” for your privacy settings.
