trouble exporting wordpress.com blog on a Mac OS X

    Hi – I want to switch my blog from a wordpress.com to a wordpress.org site using Blue Host but thought it would be prudent to first back up the existing blog on my computer.

    I followed the instructions on the site for exporting the blog, going to Tools and then Export. The first few times I tried this, for some reason a game that was installed on my hard drive by Apple (called Four Free) kept opening on the screen. I finally dragged that game to the trash from the Applications folder. When I tried exporting again, I just get a message from Mac saying it can’t open the downloaded XML file. Thus I can’t save it and move forward with my plan.

    I’m eager to get this done and tempted to just go to Blue Host and hope for the best, but if I lost any portion of my existing wordpress.com blog I’d be most unhappy. Please help! Many thanks.
