Trouble getting started

    Hi,
    I have recently started using WordPress to set up a simple blog and am finding it unbearably difficult to use. I have a strong tech background (PhD in AI) but literally everything about the service is counter-intuitive. Every time I think ‘I’d like to do X’ it is either incredibly difficult or seemingly impossible to do. I gave up trying to change the size of a font after half an hour. Why have they made it so difficult?!
    Please can someone help me get started? I’m sure there are smart people who have thought about usability but currently I cannot even get started on the simplest of tasks.
