Trouble Launching
-
I just made my blog today, and would really like to get it up and running! However, every time I try to launch the site, it takes me to a payment screen. It then asks me to buy a domain and a hosting plan. I would like to start with a free version (including .wordpress.com to the domain address) that I thought was advertised, if possible. Thanks!

Good Morning –
Sorry about that trouble! How frustrating… You can definitely use WordPress.com for free. Will you take another look and see if you’re able to launch the site now? There was an upgrade in your cart which I deleted.

Thanks for the reply! I just tried again, and am still running into the same screen. I double checked my cart just to be sure, and it is in fact empty.
My domain listed seems to be correct; it does have wordpress.com as a suffix, and I’ve tried launching both from the Homepage Setup tool and General Settings, and both bring me to the same paywall. -

Hi! That is what I was doing, but I did not get the same screen as shown in your image. It was similar, but there were many more domains suggested (none of which were free), and at the bottom the only listed option was “Show More Domains”, which were also all paid options.
I ended up changing browsers from Google Chrome to Microsoft Edge to see if that was causing the issue, and it was! On Edge I was able to launch my site no problem, and got the screen in your image. I think maybe the problem was I had selected an upgrade previously, so my cache/cookies were still showing that I wanted a paid option.
Thanks so much for all your help!

That sounds likely, yes. Glad you figured it out :)
