Trouble moving from wordpress.org to wordpress.com

  I am having some issues moving blog content for my parents. Their self-hosted wordpress.org site is at http://www.kenandroxanne.com/.

  I have downloaded the xml, and uploaded to the new site: kenandroxanne.wordpress.com. Worked ok, but most of the many photos in their posts did not upload. I deleted all posts, and tried downloading just the post xml, uploading that file, and now it seems like nothing is happening. Page content seems fine, but no matter what I upload nothing changes in the posts section.

  One thing I am worried about is that they have a ton of high res photos. Perhaps that is causing the problem? Still I would be happy if I could get all the text uploaded and have them deal with the photos later.

  Hi there,

  I see 810 images in the media library for your WordPress.com site: https://kenandroxanne.wordpress.com/wp-admin/upload.php

  They are all unattached now because you deleted your posts. Are these the images you were missing, or were there more?

  When you created your export file for the self-hosted site, did you check the box to include attachments? The way the export/import process works, images files are not included in the export file but instead are grabbed from the internet during the import process.

  Would you be willing to try this import again? Since you’ve deleted some of the content, I can empty the site at kenandroxanne.wordpress.com of all content and let you start fresh. Let me know if you’d like to try that, and once you’ve performed the import, if things didn’t work properly, I can take a closer look.

  I honestly don’t remember if I checked the “include attachment” box. But is it odd that one or two photos would have loaded in a post and not the rest?

  Before I empty the blog, I should note that it will remove all media, posts, pages, comments, and tags/categories. So I should have asked in my previous post:

  Is there anything at kenandroxanne.wordpress.com that was there prior to the import, or that you’ve added since?

  If not, then emptying it is the best way to go, but I want to confirm this before proceeding as it cannot be reversed.

  No nothing has been added other than the xml file. Everything is fine to remove.

  I’ve generated a request to empty kenandroxanne.wordpress.com. The process should be done shortly and you can try the import again.

  It looks like everything transferred correctly. I’ll have to check with my client (aka parents) to make sure, but if anything it’ll probably just be some minor edits.
