trouble moving my home URL

  I have read how to have my blogs home page be here “mydomain.com” instead of where I set up the WP files which is here “mydomain.com/wordpress but after following all the instructions I could find It still won’t work. I know I must be doing something wrong .So If someone could give me idiot proof step by step instructions I would be forever in their debt.
