Trouble moving WP site

I had a wordpress multi site setup for me several years ago. It had some lingering issues so I decided to replace it. The original site was located at the root directory of mydomain.com. I developed the new site at mydomain.com/newsite which is located on the same server and webhost. When the new site was ready, I backed up both sites’ source files and sql databases. I then deleted the original wordpress site at the root domain and deleted the new site at mydomain.com/newsite . I updated the config file of the new site to reflect the new root location of wordpress and uploaded the new sites’ files to the root directory.

The issue is that I keep getting “Error establishing a database connection” messages. I called my host support and they said that the database file is not corrupted and appears to be working fine. The settings for the database file should be the same as before I moved the site so that hasn’t changed. I’m not sure what to do at this point. Any suggestions are welcome. Let me know if you need more info.

  • Hi there,

Looks like you’re in the wrong forum. It appears that you’re using the self-hosted version of WordPress and you need to seek help at the WordPress.org forums:

    https://wordpress.org/support/

These forums are for WordPress.com hosted sites only. If you want to know more about the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org you can read this document:
