Trouble posting to my blog

    At first, and for the last couple of says, trying to click on the bell silhouette on the dashboard doesn’t open my messages.

    Now I cannot post to my blog.
    I work off line. Writing the posts and going online only to paste the text, add photos and publish. I also am using the Classic Editor.
    Since earlier today, I managed to find My Account at its’ new location to change the language, went back to dashboard and managed starting a new post. But I cannot paste text to the post, nor to the tags.

  • What browser are you using? Does it happen if you try a different browser? Are you using any browser extensions? Can you try disabling them and seeing if that changes things?

    I am using FireFox, and I have no other browser to switch to. I don’t know what are the ‘extensions’ you’re referring to, therefore I don’t think I’ve enabled anything to disable now.

    However, and since 1- I published a post last Thursday with no problem whatsoever; 2- at least a single change has been made to WP (the location of My Account, and/or the access to it) since then; and 3- I have made no change at all to my own devices – I have the feeling this is not due to anything connected to my settings. And everything to do with something technical of WP’s that went awry while changing something else…

  • Do you mean the menu locations changed a bit? We did adjust those a while ago, and if you prefer the classic editor, you may prefer the advanced settings:

    But I cannot paste text to the post, nor to the tags.

    If you run into this again, let us know what happens when you try to paste. With more details, we can hopefully help you sort this out.

    Yes, I meant that, as this is the only change I’m aware of. Yes, I use the Classic Editor (I cannot/will not use the Block one). And I set the advanced dashboard pages a while back, when I had another technical problem (which this solved).

    Running into this Again? It is still happening (and preventing my blogging), also on my secondary blog, at https://israelilifesmoments.home.blog/
    The mouse-click on the post body (or tags) does not catch (the same as with the bell silhouette above mentioned). And Ctrl+V simply does nothing.
    I don’t know what other details I can provide…

    Sorry, there is a detail I forgot to mention. Clicking the bell silhouette on Dashboard – does nothing. On the Reader screen a click will open the messages. Maybe that says something to you? Or not…

  • What is the exact version of Firefox you’re using? You can find that by visiting http://supportdetails.com/ in your browser.

    Please try clearing your browser cache:

    If that makes no difference, please download and install another browser like Chrome, or check in Edge which should already be installed if you’re on a Windows computer, and see if the issue happens there as well.

    What you describe is most likely a browser issue, and the only way to confirm or rule that out is to check in another browser.

    My apologies in advance – I am beginning to lose my patience. I will do my best to not let it show, it is not your fault.

    The exact version of Firefox is 52.9.0. They wouldn’t let me update it when I tried, and that was too long ago, I don’t remember what happened. Just that it didn’t work.

    Yes, this is an old version, I am also still using Windows XP. No – I have no intention to upgrade/change/download anything. This is an old computer, it will not be up to it. I too am an old woman, not up to any of the sort.

    ‘No’ too to the cache clearance. Evey time one of you told me to do that, it caused problems besides. And so far, as far as I can remember, it was useless, as the problem turned out to be WPs’.

    Besides, and as I’ve already said before – everything worked fine last Thursday and I haven’t changed anything (neither did Mozilla, as the browser is set to NOT check changes). Therefore it cannot be ‘a browser issue’ as that is the same as ever.

    And this I said before as well – if anything changed, it had to have been on WP side. And it happened about 3 days ago. That’s when the bell silhouette on the dashboard stopped working. Only I didn’t try posting anything till Monday morning…

    PS I just tried typing to the post body instead of trying to paste text and that too I cannot do.
    I simply cannot blog in any way…

    I understand that this is super frustrating, so I accessed your account and tested copy-pasting content into a new post, just as you described you usually do. I recorded a video, so you can see that there’s no issue on your site.
    First, I used the Ctrl+V command, then I pasted it using the right-click menu. You can see the video here.

    Because we are not able to replicate this odd behavior on our end, we suspect the issue is with your browser (I used Firefox as well, but the newest version).

    If you do not wish to/cannot upgrade your browser or clear your browser’s cache, I would suggest using the WordPress desktop app instead. You can download it from here:

    I’m really sorry but I cannot watch videos on my computer (did I mention it is old? In human years I think it is about 107). But I believe you.

    At the same time, did you see my PS?

    Following your last, I did delete the cache, re-booted and went back to the dashboard. The bell still does not click/open messages; and I could not type a single word to my last draft. On the previous attempt, before posting the above PS, I tried typing to the tag space and that worked.

    Another thing that changed is that on the dashboard when I point to something (like Posts) it does not open the side options. I need to actually click the Posts to get to them.

    If you still cannot find what is wrong, I guess this is the end of my blog (at least on WP) and that’s beyond frustrating…

    I did, yes. I went back to your account and created a test draft, to make sure there were no issues on our end. I haven’t deleted the draft, so you can check it yourself:

    The problem with outdated versions of browsers is that they may stop supporting the newest web technology, and that is changing constantly. When the browser can’t read the information from the software properly, odd issues may start occurring.
    You don’t have to renounce blogging on WordPress.com, however. As I mentioned earlier, you could try downloading our desktop app instead.
    We also have a mobile app, that would allow you to blog directly from your mobile phone or tablet, you can download it from the same link I shared above.

    Let me know if you have any more questions regarding that.

    I’m sorry, you’ve created that draft using the Block editor and it wouldn’t let me continue with the Classic one. So I couldn’t open it.

    Did you try the classic version of the Block editor?
    Maybe that is why you cannot re-create the problem…
    There’s a huge difference between anything Block related and the actual original Classic Editor (or the last version of it).

    The way I do it is opening a new post from the Posts page, at the top, where it gives the choice between the Block and Classic.
    You can also hover over my last draft The Morning Shower, select opening with the Classic editor and check that…

  • Thanks for bringing that up; I didn’t realize you were using the Classic Editor.

    I removed the previous test draft and added a new one created with Classic Editor. Again, I had no issues creating the post, typing the message, or copy-pasting text.
    I have also opened up your empty draft and was able to add content there (I haven’t saved anything there, though).

    First let me say this – I thank you very much for your effort! And I’m not just saying it, I really do appreciate it.

    I’ve been able to open both your draft and my last one, but saw no text and couldn’t add any.
    Out of curiosity I opened other older posts. Three of those at random. None had anything in them – no words or photos. The Word Count was 0.
    Horrified, I checked both the preview of the posts and the entire blog preview. It is all there. I just cannot see it in the Classic Editor.

    I’m going off line for today, not just frustrated but angry and disappointed. To be clear – not about you (!) but the situation.
    I don’t know what to say. If this persists, I can’t blog anymore. And that just adds sadness to it all.

    But again – not your fault. I don’t think you could do more than you have done. And I thank you for it again.
