Trouble Setting Up The Blask Theme
-
I have a retired theme(Bouquet) so I’d like to change it on CRYSTAL’S PHOTO-BLOGGING SITE but don’t know how to set it up. I was told if I wanted to use thiss theme you would walk me through the steps setting it up. I want it to look nice and polished on my blog. So many questions. I’m taking a blogging course(my 3rd one) and can’t do anything with customization because my theme is retired. Please help me set up Blask. I Like this theme just don’t know how to set it up. Please walk me through the steps of the Blask Theme.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

We have a theme customizer that allows us to preview themes so we can see what they are like prior to switching.
https://en.support.wordpress.com/customizer/Every theme has a detailed theme description page. This one is at https://wordpress.com/theme/blask and that’s where set up instructions for it, and the live demo site link is found.
After using the set up instructions at https://wordpress.com/theme/blask if you have any specific issues please post exactly what they are here.

I’m new to the blogging world and would like help with setting up my new theme. I asked already and you’re asking for specific questions. I thought I asked 1 specific question. I asked for help and you won’t give me guidance – why?? Where’s the theme forum? If you won’t give me help then I guess I will stick with my retired theme.

Hi @daisymae2017, right now on your site, you have your blog posts showing on your main page. If you switch to Blask, your main page will look very similar to the blog page on Blask. Take a look at that page to see what your main page will look similar to.
Blask does not have a header image, but does offer a Site logo (set at Customize > Site Identity) that would appear above the site title. Since it is fairly small compared to your existing header image, you would probably want to create a new header image that would work with the smaller size.
After reading my reply, and looking at the Blask blog page, let me know your thoughts, and we will go from there.

OK I see what you mean. Now I have a question for you. Is there a theme that has a similar setup and also has a simple set up for photos and blogging than the theme I have? I don’t understand Blask. Please give me your opinions.

Hi there, I have a few suggestions on simple blog themes that look nice and are easy to use. I’m not entirely clear on what it is you like about the Blask theme, so I’m sort of assuming here that you would like your blog posts shown in a grid, much like the portfolio items shown on the main page of the Blask demo, and I’m also assuming you want a header image feature as well.
Baskerville 2
Rowling (no header image, but nice layout)
Gazette
Toujours (no grid, but nice layout of posts)This is the theme showcase filtered list I was using, which I set to show free “blog” related themes with custom headers. You can look though that too.
If I’ve missed the mark, can you let me know what it is that drew you to consider Blask and I’ll see what else I can come up with.

I was drawn to Blask because I could post pictures or just blog. I had found a theme when I first started blogging but can’t find it now. I can tell you it was a free theme. It was a picture of a camera and you could choose your color of the camera. There were 3 or 4 choices. Do you know what theme it is. Also, I think it had a 3 column widget at the bottom. I looked at your theme suggestions and it wasn’t what I was looking for. This is for CRYSTAL’S PHOTO-BLOGGING SITE and possibly WELCOME TO CRYSTAL’S SITE(ORIGINALLY COUNTRY LIVING) Both of my sites have retired themes. Anyway to see my past themes I’ve considered. Hope you can help.

thesacredpath, I found the theme I was looking for. It’s called Vintage Camera. I just wanted to know what you thought. I think it’s free. Let me know.
-
Vintage Camera is retired, but since you had it activated at one time, you can still use it. It’s a nice theme, I’ve always liked it and the “retro” look of it. I would suggest giving it a try and see how it works for you.
-
I just might. Not crazy about the footer widgets but I can deal with that. Any other suggestions for themes on the free plan other than the ones you have mentioned? So I can use Vintage Camera? I like it.

I would suggest filtering the Theme Showcase. You can filter it and change the filters and look through what comes up. If you go to the Theme Showcase, you will see a row of buttons near the top. If you click on Subject and then type in Blog, it will bring up a list of themes that are good for blogging. You can then click on Style, and then click on the Show all link at the upper right of the list and choose things such as Clean, or Minimal, or Simple, or Modern, or even Traditional. Some will be more complex than others, but there is quite the variety. You can also click on the Free button at the right of the entry search box to get a listing only showing the free themes for your search.
Any that you are interested in, you can click on the theme snapshot and glance through the information on it’s features and what is involved to use it. As I said, some are going to be more complex than others.

@daisymae2017, the Flat Bootstrap theme mentioned is not available here at WordPress.com. That was a spammer that posted that. Sorry about that.

I used to have a home page on my other theme but only seem to have A SAMPLE OF CRYSTAL’S PHOTO-BLOGGING, ABOUT AND CONTACT PAGES. Do I have to create a home page and how do I go about doing that. I’m confused.

Hi @daisymae2017!
If you want a static front page, rather than a listing of your latest blog posts on your front page, then you’ll need to follow this guidance:
The above guidance includes a handy video tutorial to help with the steps for setting up a static font page.
Take a look and don’t hesitate to reply back here if extra questions come up.
