Trouble Uploading Blog to Buehost – Export File

    Hi there – I am trying to import my blog to Bluehost and the Export file I downloaded isn’t working for me or the Bluehost support team. When I upload the Export file to my new WP site on Bluehost, only 46 of my 102 posts show up. I have been trying for a few hours, and finally the Bluehost support team advised that I contact WordPress for troubleshooting with the Export file. Please advise! I have been Exporting “all content.”

    In case it helps, my domain name, ciao-mama.com, is registered from Godaddy.com. But my site is currently hosted on WordPress. Thank you!

    Hi there,

    I suspect the size of the export file is causing the importer at Bluehost to time out. I went ahead and sent a new export file to the email address on file for your account. That export should have multiple zip files (the export is broken up into smaller chunks). Could you try importing each of those? The order shouldn’t matter!

    Hi, thank you so much for your response!

    So earlier today, I was on the phone with a Bluehost representative and he was able to upload the xml. However, only half of my media library uploaded. Now I am wondering…should I still try and upload the files you sent? Or maybe the last two, depending on how they are broken up? Or…is there a way to start this whole process over using the files you sent? It is great that all of my posts are there now but isn’t helpful if only half of my photos are in them! Last photo uploaded to the Media Library on the new WP site is from August 2012.

    Howdy!

    The fact that only half of the media library uploaded seems to indicate the upload is timing out on the Bluehost side. I went ahead and resent the zip file. Can you check your spam folder and the “Social” tab in Gmail?

    Uploading the files again will not result in duplicate content. It will just add anything that hasn’t already been added.
