‘Greenhouse re-examined.pdf
An error occurred in the upload. Please try again later.’The 226K .pdf almost loads but the above message appears. Tried MANY times over 2 days. (I also tried its .doc file with the same result. I’ve had similar problems also with .jpg files in the past but they eventually loaded.

Groan!
Same trouble. After deleting a file from “Upload files” in Edit, then tried to upload an updated .pdf file; the new file “almost” uploads but returns same error message. Tried again with different file name.I cleared cache and cookies, but to no effect.

@pjcarson2015
Can you share the link of the page that you are trying to upload from?
What web browser are you using?
I tagged this thread ‘modlook’ to notify staff that you are having ongoing issues with uploading your images. Please subscribe to this thread and they will contact you here.
While you wait for staff, go ahead and take a look at this forum thread regarding images: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/media-uploading-issues?replies=85

Thanks for tagging us, staff-zinnia, and for offering some great troubleshooting steps.
I’m also curious which editor you’re using, @pjcarson2015 .
Also, what kind of connection? Sometimes we’ll see errors like these if there’s a trouble with the signal between your system and ours.

Editor built into WordPress.
.pdf built using Word 2013.I have eventually uploaded the updated 227K .pdf file (GreenhouseRe) after hours of trying. This is typically what has happened on most previous occasions. It makes me nervous each time that perhaps it won’t update at all!
[Thanks for your interest.]

Oh, and it’s a (slow) wireless broadband connection, (Ping 47ms, Download 7, Upload 0.68)

@pjcarson2015 we’ve deployed a fix. Can you let me know whether you’re still having trouble?
-
Tried uploading a 278K .jpg file 3 times so far. Same problem.
“An error occurred in the upload. Please try again later.”
-
I uploaded the .jpg file successfully about 4 hours ago. The Edit process has now changed and it was a little difficult to get used to – I even managed to delete the whole site!! Sweat! Sweat! I did manage to retrieve it eventually.
[This website business is more difficult than the science contained within!]
-
@pjcarson2015 is there any chance your internet connection could be having trouble? If it lets you upload files sometimes but not others, that is one factor that could be changing.
-
No. Slow but stable.
Uploading a file is always difficult, but loads eventually.
However, no difficulty in editing the existing site’s text. -
@pjcarson2015 so to clarify, does it eventually load after several attempts, or does it just take a long time now?
If it is after several attempts, that points to connection issues as well (particularly with packet loss.) Can you check to see whether this is an issue for you?
-
As I said in first message, .pdf and .jpg files eventually load after numerous attempts, usually over a couple of days.
Each file seems to load quickly, until it hesitates at the end when it seems it has finished, but then it returns the error message.
{There’s no red light on the modem at any stage.) -
Each file seems to load quickly, until it hesitates at the end when it seems it has finished, but then it returns the error message.
It sounds like it’s failing at the end when it’s checking to be sure it received the whole file. Have you checked your connection for packet loss yet? There are several sites that can help with this.
-
Using Freeola: No packets lost, 340.7ms latency (high), 2ms jitter.
[While I’ve got you here,“Statistics”:
1. Do I get counted in these statistics if I look or work on the site?
2. “What is “Views” by a particular visitor? I’m assuming that gets added to each time a visitor opens any of the .pdf files I have as part of my site.
3. Does a particular visitor who returns on other days get counted again?
4. Can you look at the site without being counted?]Continuing thanks for your help.

@pjcarson2015 I’m not sure what to tell you. Is there any chance you can try a different connection, or a different computer, to see if you get the same problem? I just tried logging in as you in case there was some problem with your account. I uploaded a PDF, then downloaded one of the PDFs you’d added and re-uploaded it. Both went through very quickly without a glitch. I tried uploading via wordpress.com/post (you’ll see my draft there – feel free to remove it) as well as through your wp-admin media library.
Speaking of which, I guess if you’ve only been using one of those, you could try using the other to see if you notice any difference. So you could try here:
wordpress.com/post
Or via pjcarson2015.wordpress.com/wp-admin
About visitors & stats:
1. No, logged in visits to your own site do not count unless your site is private.
2. Actually PDFs aren’t counted in those views, but if they view the page that has the PDF link on it, that would count.
3. Good question! Let’s say I someone visits your site on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. They will count as a visitor for each of those days, if you’re viewing daily stats. If you view weekly stats, they count as one visitor for the week. So if your visitors come back often, your weekly visitors can be less than the total of daily visitors. This article has more information.
4. Site admins, authors, editors, etc — basically those who have user roles on your site — will only count if your site is marked private.
I hope that helps!
