trouble using forms from 1ShoppingCart

    Hello!

I searched the forum threads and didn’t see the exact answer to my question, so I’ll post it here. Sorry if it’s been covered already.

I am trying to set up a simple name and email sign up box for my newsletter on my wordpress.com blog (http://superinterns.wordpress.com). I use 1ShoppingCart as my autoresponder program.

I am having troube pasting the form code from 1ShoppingCart into the html editor on the page. When I go to save it, it disappears.

Now I am not a html expert, or a coder, at all. I just know how to cut and paste. I don’t know if I am supposed to be using any of those buttons on the top of the editor like “code” or “close tags” etc. Perhaps this is the issue?

Or is WordPress somehow blocking the foreign html as a security measure? I did see something to that effect in the archives. Is this what is happening?

I am confused because I was able to successfully paste forms into my wordpress.org blog that is hosted by a 3rd party. But I know wordpress.com is different.

    Thank you for your help!

    Michelle

It disappears because is 95% likely to be javascript, which is stripped out in WP.com blogs. I’m not aware of a single shopping cart program that will work within WP.com, and yes, it’s a security measure.

Why not use the Contact Form?

How do I make a Contact Form?

Thanks raincoaster. Unfortunately I do need to hook up to 1ShoppingCart. Does that mean I have to switch to wordpress.org? Can I migrate my wordpress.com blog to wordpress.org and keep everything (theme included) intact? Thanks again.

If you absolutely MUST use that for your autoresponder, you’ll either have to send people to that site to sign up or you’ll have to move your blog. It’s a bit fiddly but not as intimidating as it could be.

If you move you cannot take your theme with you in the same exact way, but some themes are also available for WP.org blogs. Just do a Google search for WordPress themes.

    mlhuse,

WordPress.com is very limiting with form code, and other code you would want to put on your wordpress.com site.

I was going to teach my students how to use wordpress.com until I learned that the sign up box code would not work.

Also, if you want to sell anything from a wordpress.com site, you could run into problems with the terms of service for wordpress.com

I recommend you migrate over to wordpress.org on your own servers. Then you can do anything you want.
My Shopping Cart Club has a tips section that is wordpress.org.

    Cheers,
