Trouble using html in text widget

    I’m trying to add a subscription form for my mailchimp.com list to my blog sidebar. I got the html code from mail chimp. The description of the text widget says it can be used for html, but it doesn’t seem to be working – I paste the html code and then when I view my blog you just see the code, not the actual form the code represents. What do I need to do to get a signup form on my site?!

    I’m using the free wordpress.com hosting for now so I can’t use the plugin, I think.
