Trouble Using the "Link" Icon

Adding a link to text works the same in the new and old editor. Is this the process you followed?

If not, could you try that and see if it works the way you were expecting?

I’ve been having issues linking text to website URL’s for a while now. I thought that it was simply because I had decided not to use the new WordPress posting interface. When I tried to change to it using the handy “Switch to the improved posting experience” it just keeps bringing me back to my same old posting experience. I am trying to link using the button at the top of my writing area like I have since 2008. I think it is just broken.

– I put the cursor where I want the link
– I click on the link iconAre you highlighting text, or just placing your cursor in the edit window?
If you don’t highlight anything, the link tool won’t work.

I personally am highlighting text. I go through the entire process that is described in the link you gave earlier, and nothing happens. Like I said, I have been using this since 2008. I have linked many, many things in the past. It simply stopped working a little while ago.

Firefox 16.0.2
That is most likely the issue.
The current version of Firefox is 35. As the WordPress.com software advances it eventually becomes incompatible with older browsers. My sense is that’s what has happened here.

OK, I tried that using the new editor, and it worked. Very odd procedure, though. What is the purpose of “naming the link” in the link tool pop-up?
I usually use IE – currently version 11 with Windows 8.1.
On a somewhat unrelated topic, I am constantly reverted to the old post editor. Why? Once I make the switch I would like to stay there – unless of my own accord.
Anyway, thank you.

@ richfed,

The Insert/edit link popup modules look the same to me in either editor, except that the font is somewhat larger in the new editor.

The title attribute displays as a tooltip when you hover over the link. You could use it for description, or to provide other information about the link there.

Your browser uses a cookie to remember which editor you prefer. If you use a different browser, or if you clear your browser cookies your preference will be forgotten.
If you are using the same browser on the same computer, and aren’t clearing your cookies, and the problem is still occurring let me know.
