Trouble with featured post on Structure theme
-
Hi there, this is my blog: http://stylebysuburbia.wordpress.com/
I’m having a bit of trouble with this theme. I was under the impression that your latest post would show up with the large image and title at the top, however, my posts seem to get stuck. The one currently featured (“Garden inspired”) is almost a week old and I’ve made 4 posts since then that have not gone to the top!
Any idea how to fix this?!
Thanks a million!!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Nevermind! I realized that under Appearance -> Theme Options it was set to a certain kind of category to show as the featured post! Situation amended!
-
How did you amend it? Is there a way to set it so that your most current post appears there, no matter the category, and then to set it so that your most recent post does not appear again just below?
-
@spenning There is something I do not understand in your blog and which I really would like to understand. Let’s look at those three posts : Bling/ Sale Savvy/ and Alowha. Bling is dated 21/07 Sale Savvy is 14/07 and Alowha is 08/07. Bling appears as your featured post because you added its category under Appearance / Theme options. Fine. What I do not understand, is how come Bling and Sale Savvy do not appear in the bottom part of the front page, in that part where the posts are supposed to appear in reverse chronological order no matter what? I know it is easy to have as your featured post a post which is not the latest post (by playing with the categories), but what did you do so that the latest post does NOT appear in the dynamic part of the blog?
I have seen some workarounds offered by the volunteers here but
1. you needed to play with the css to change it, which I cant do
2. these workarounds used to get rid of the IMAGE of the latest post, not of the latest post altogether… Please let us know what you did to achieve this, it would be really appreciated! -
@velofolk: No and no. The Homepage Top area displays the title and the featured image of the latest post filed under the category you’ve set as your featured category. That post will also show up below the HT area (unless you’ve set a very low number of posts per page and you’ve published enough newer posts filed under other categories).
@sunnisme: In spenning’s blog, “Bling” does “appear in the bottom part of the front page”.
-
Posts 1-6 are in reverse chronological order, and posts 7-10 are in reverse chronological order but more recent than 1-6. So 1-6 are stickies (which is pointless).
-
But I dont understand how she achieved that (to make 1 to 6 as stickies). I cannot find the function “sticky post” in structure…
The main point I see in this is that if you want your latest post as the featured post, then that latest post does not reappear immediately after the featured image, which used to look really odd. My posts are nothing to do with the news and are not linked to each other. The chronological order of my posts is irrelevant as far as my blog is concerned. Therefore, if I had a way to push the latest post further down, so that it reappears only after the reader has scrolled a little bit, that would suit me fine and would still be better than having the featured image twice in the same screen.
-
Ok, then turn some important posts to stickies. A sticky post isn’t a theme option, it’s an option in the post editor:

Great. But then what is the point of the tag “Sticky post” in the themes directory? That’s what led me to think that Structure had no “Sticky post” feature and that the feature was theme-dependent…
-
Absolutely no point, since all themes support stickies.
For more, wait for a staff reply: they are purportedly “considering focusing more staff support on the forums”.
You may have to wait long.
