Trouble with Godaddy domain forwarding to WordPress blog?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

I own a domain on godaddy and would like users to be directed to my wordpress blog when they type in the domain i purchased (nymetrostroke.com)

    currently, it says this:

    “The page isn’t redirecting properly

Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.

This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept cookies.”

When I remove my “forward domain to nymetrostroke” in my wordpress account, it displays fine. On my godadddy, i forwarded my domain to my wordpress, but when users type in my domain name, it directs them to my wordpress but the url is my wordpress url.

Ideally, I would like users to type nymetrostroke.com and it will direct them to my wordpress site but still maintain nymetrostroke.com on the url.

oh dear God, I hope I make sense. I am such a newbie to all of this.

Thank you anyone for your help

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You’re using forwarding. We can’t help you with that. We CAN help you with domain mapping. That works well. You will need to buy the Domain Mapping upgrade. http://support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/

i did purchase domain mapping. however, when i type in the domain name, it shows me an error page. unless, i update the primary domain to my reg wordpress name. if i dont do this, it will keep showing me an error message.

on godaddy, i have also updated the dns server name to reflect wordpress. i can’t figure out what i am doing wrong :(

    Thanks for your quick response

also, i think i may be getting the terminology wrong. im new to “tech-talk”.

when i say, forwarding – i think i meant mapping. thinking that mapping means = when i type nymetrostroke.com, it shows my wordpress site…..

    Hold Your Horses!

It can take as long as 72 hours for DNS changes to become widely available. If you’re still not seeing your site loading at nymetrostroke.com, please wait a few more hours, clear your browser cache, and try again.

http://nymetrostroke.com/ – loads fine for me – take a long walk and DON’T TOUCH ANYTHING!!!
