Not every theme will display a tagline.

https://harmonicdemo.wordpress.com/A Tagline (not a blog description) is meant to be a very brief branding message. Your expanded blog description is meant to appear on your About page.
The Site title (blog name) and/or the optional Tagline can be changed on the top of this page at any time. > Settings > General … “save changes”.
That is exactly where search engine spiders look for the site title and removing it from there can cause issues with getting your content indexed. Note that the site title (blog name) and blog address URL do not have to be the same but it’s better for SEO (search engine optimization) if they are the same.

Thanks, but my settings are already set in the manner you have indicated.
However the tagline does not appear in the home page. If I try and view the home page in publish, pages…. only the about page shows, and the home page doesn’t. Hence I can not change the settings of the home page.
Please help -
I want to specify my home page as the front page so that the tagline appears but it doesn’t appear as an option

I am seeing your tagline (Still Climbing @17000 ft) display on your homepage.
Were you able to get this sorted out?

Thanks rootjosh. I have chosen a different theme for the blog. Hermes theme. This does not seem to have space to show the tagline
