Trouble with image quality using Cubic theme

    Dear community,

Since the switch to the new editor I have been having a lot of problems. While I like the design of the editor, clearly something has changed in the code. I cannot publish any new posts on my Cubic themed blog, as they all turn out with awful image quality (only in a few rare cases do they not and I have yet to find out why). Additionally, I have been getting extremely annoyed when the editor refuses to publish telling me that I’m not allowed to edit, though I am clearly the only admin of the website and have been for years. But the latter is an annoyance I could live with if I was able to publish anything at all without it looking completely unprofessional due to poor image quality. I apologize for my tone, it has been really grinding my nerves. I have been googling the issue and tried all sorts of things – including various forms of resizing and formating my images, but it just doesn’t work. It was never a problem prior to the introduction of the new editor, I thus think that it’s related to the problem.

Does anyone have ideas on what I can do?

    Kind regards,
    Elly Arrow

  • Hi there,

You did not mention but you are needing help with dieunsichtbarenmaenner.wordpress.com yes? I looked at the site, but I did not see the image issue you describe. Can I see this on your homepage?  Or is it a specific place I need to look at?

    Thanks for pointing it out!

Additionally, I have been getting extremely annoyed when the editor refuses to publish telling me that I’m not allowed to edit, though I am clearly the only admin of the website and have been for years.

You use Chrome as your browser, yes? A recent update to Chrome caused our login cookies to stop working correctly. Can you try to delete your browser cookies by following the steps Google recommends here?

This should clear up the issue, but if not you may also need to log out, then log in, to your account again.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

Thank you very much for the quick reply!
Yes, it is about this page (warning: the website discusses violence against women in prostitution – some content is disturbing): https://dieunsichtbarenmaenner.wordpress.com/tag/germany/
If you follow the link you can see that the first image is blurry (I haven’t made any additional new posts since the blurriness makes it look unprofessional). This is most pronounced on my cellphone, the quality on my laptop is only slightly worse than other images. The image quality downgrade is not affecting previously published posts, only new ones and I have yet to understand why this is. The only thing I know is that it happened with the upgrade to the new editor.

Thank you very much for letting me know about the other issue. I can either switch to another browser or clear my cookie history.

    Greetings,
    Elly

  • Hi Elly,

Can you try setting that image as the featured image for the post?

    https://d.pr/i/mcYCBT

That tag page displays images based on what you set as the featured image for the posts, but in the absence of a featured image it uses the first image in the post instead.

It looks like this theme applies some cropping and resizing to the image, which leads to the blurriness. If this only happens to images you added via an image block, it likely means that at some level the theme isn’t fully compatible with the block editor.

But if you explicitly set a featured image, the code that creates blocks don’t come into it at all, so I wouldn’t expect to see the same issue in that case.

You have your site configured to not display featured images on the posts themselves, so this shouldn’t cause anything else on your site to change.

Let me know how it goes.
