Trouble with linking audio
-
Friends,
I’m trying to link text to audio in my blog. I’m having trouble.
I’ve followed the instructions in section one of http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/12/24/how-do-i-get-music-on-my-blog/
I have audio stored on another site. I have a URL address for that audio.
When I link and save the text in my blog, the player shown in the FAQ does not appear. Instead, a SnapShots pop-up window appears. Should it? Why doesn’t the player shown appear on the page?
Secondly, the link in the SnapShots pop-up window doesn’t work. (I am certain the audio file works on the site where is stored.) The audio doesn’t load or play. When I go back to check the link I inserted, a WordPress address is inserted IN FRONT OF the URL address I typed in — there are TWO addresses, one appearing out of nowhere. The unwanted address is:http://shunpikeaudio.wordpress.com/wp-admin/%5B%20
The page where this is happening is here: http://shunpikeaudio.wordpress.com/past-projects/
Please help. Many thanks.

I don’t see a closing ] on that audio link. That could be the problem. Or it could be that Fileden does not allow hotlinking; you’d have to check that with them.

Thanks raincoaster. Much appreciated. But, the problem remains unsolved.
Fileden allows for hotlinking. No problem there.
You are right, the ] was missing at the end of URL of the audio link. That too is part of my problem. I put it in, it gets taken out. And, while seeing if your suggestion works, once again, the address to my blog gets mysteriously added IN FRONT of the audio link address.
Anyone have any other thoughts? I’m perplexed.
Thanks.

I think you should check the “code” tab and make sure it is like this when you edit the page:
Maple Sugaring with Claude Rodrigue, Sandy Bay Township [audio=http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/1/27/1723409/TRACK%2011%20-%20Grange%20Hall.mp3] “My Town,” by poet Wes McNair, MercerIt might be the spaces that the editor is having trouble with. That is why I like to upload audio using dashes (-) with no spaces to ensure it works :)

I guess that or:
[audio=http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/1/27/1723409/TRACK 11 - Grange Hall.mp3]Trent

WordPress doesn’t like spaces, or any sort of special characters in file names. Letters, numbers and dashes are fine.

Hi,
I think you’ve tried putting the [audio=…] shortcode tag inside a link tag. Try putting it by itself on a blank line in your post, without any link tags or anything else.

Tellyworth nailed it. I was linking text with the [audio=fileden address], if you will. THANK YOU. And thanks for ALL of the responses. Great to know there are folks out there willing to lend a hand. Onward and upward.
Cheers,
Rob
