Trouble with post titles in Shaan theme

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi

I am starting a new blog with wordpress code in Microsoft Webmatrix. It is not yet hosted as I am still developing it locally. I am using a modified version of the Shaan theme and I am having some trouble fixing the post titles.

First of all, I cannot get the font to change from the original one. I have replaced every instance of [font-family: etc etc] with [font-family:Georgia,Tahoma,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;]. This (the latter) is what I would like to use, however making these changes has produced no effect on the website. Am I missing something?

Secondly, the theme does not appear to produce a title in the form of text (you can’t highlight text in a post title). I would like the post titles to be displayed as text on the website for east of copying and searching. How would I go about accomplishing this?

Again, since I have not yet hosted the website (hopefully it will go up in the next week or so), I cannot link you to it, but the Shaan theme is available for free and that is the basis of the site’s code.

Thanks for any help! …and go Packers!

    gello there,
If you are expecting to be able to click a button and change fonts throughout your blog then it’s not that easily done. There are 4 ways to change fonts on wordpress.com blogs.
    (1) Changing font colors and size on posts or pages either post by post or page by page http://en.support.wordpress.com/editors/font-size-color/
    (2) Changing font colors using the #4 icon http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#row-2
    (3) Changing font families using TypeKit Fonts http://typekit.assistly.com/customer/portal/articles/6840-using-typekit-with-wordpress-com
    (4) Changing font families, colors & sizes by purchasing an annually renewable CSS editing upgrade and doing the work yourself

Here at wordpress.com we do not have “the Shaan theme” so we cannot help you with it at all. I think it’s important to know that wordpress.com is a WP-MU blogging platform. The themes here were all originally coded to run on free standing wordpress.org software installs. In order to run on wordpress.com software they were “adapted” and some features were eliminated and/or added. As this is a WP-MU blogging platform we cannot access and edit the underlying php and html in the templates. The themes we use here are all derived from shared templates.

We cannot add themes at wordpress.COM, we are limited to the themes found in the dashboard under appearance > themes. Themes found on the internet are for self-hosted wordpress blogs using the software from wordpress.ORG.

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/adding-new-themes/
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

If you have CSS editing experience, you can get the paid custom CSS upgrade and renew it annually. It will allow you to stylize the appearance of themes you find here > Appearance > Themes, but it does not allow you to change the functionality, by editing the underlying template. Also note that CSS is theme specific, so you cannot use the CSS stylesheets from other themes with the themes here at wordpress.COM.

Since there is no official Staff support for the CSS upgrade, and precious little Volunteer support, I recommend that you don’t buy the upgrade unless you have at least moderate understanding of HTML and CSS because you must be prepared to do the work on your own.

If you are considering purchasing the upgrade, you can go to Appearance > Edit CSS. There wordpress has provided a preview function where you can try before you buy.

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/editing-css/

If you do purchase the upgrade be sure to read this article before starting your editing > http://csswiz.wordpress.com/2009/10/15/if-you-have-the-wp-com-css-upgrade/

    Are you familiar with webmatrix?

I am not using a wordpress.org site. Webmatrix allows you to download and edit all of the open source wordpress.org code and any themes that come with it. That is what I have done. I will be using a domain registrar to host the site myself, but the site I host will use the wordpress code and shaan theme. The reason that I mentioned shaan is so that someone else would have access to the code through wordpress.org

Is there a different forum for self-hosted sites or anyone here who would just know about the code… That is all I need…

Ahh, I found the forum on wp.org, I’ll ask there

    Thanks

You’re welcome and best wishes with your wordpress.org install.
