Trouble with sidebar widget: Static Home & Alt. Blog page

  Greeting Community,
  I have assigned (in settings>reading), Front page to Home and Posts page to Blog. I want the ‘Category’ widget to display ONLY in the Sidebar of the Blog page.
  I previously created a few categories and have reviewed http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/categories-widget/.
  When Visibility is not limited, the widget shows on all pages; when I set Visibility to Page>Blog it does not appear on any pages (I have no Blog entries at this point- if that matters). The odd thing is that when Visibility is set to Page>Blog and I Preview the changes, I am shown the Home page, not the Blog page and the widget is present.

  Also…
  Like I said, I have created categories, but the widget is not displaying them in the Dropdown box. Is this because I have no Blog entries at this point?
