Trouble with sizing photo for custome header

  My photos are always too large for my custom header and when I try to size to the 500×225 size my ambiru theme supports, the cropping box shrinks too and doesn’t allow me to select the whole photo. any suggestions or help?? seems like i should know how to do this…

  The best results are reported by cropping the picture on your desk PC to the exact size then upload the picture – I have seen several threads about quality issues with the WordPress.com cropping – not sure what to recommend for the box sizing issue

  thanks! i would like to not crop the photo though. i’d like the entire photo to be the header.

  I cropped mine on photoshop but and good graphics program should work fine

  @kgrojean, the header space on each theme has a specific height and width. You cannot put a 2000px x 1500px images into a 500px x 200px area. It’s like trying to put a size 12 foot into a size 3 shoe.

  You have to size your header image to the side for the particular theme you are using (unless you have CSS editing experience and buy the CSS upgrade). If you don’t size the header image before uploading it, wordpress will force you to crop it to fit the available area.

  If you want a larger area for the header image, and don’t want to learn CSS and pay for the upgrade, then change to a theme that supports a larger header.

  @thesacredpath, thank you for your reply. i have resized the image to the 500x225pixel that ambiru requires but it still isn’t allowing me to select the whole image, even though i know i resized it.

  i have no CSS experience and am just using microsoft (sigh) office picture manager.

  Give me a few minutes to look at that theme and see if perhaps the sizes listed are incorrect for the header (that happens in some cases).

  The header area is set to exactly 500 x 225 in the CSS, and the original header image is exactly that size.

  Can you give us a link to the header image or is your blog set to private?
