Trouble with Subdomain, Now Everything Seems Broken
-
Hi, I’ve had a rough transition process and I am looking for help. The original idea was to transfer the url daraglobalarts.com from a WordPress site to a new Shopify site. GoDaddy helped with domain forwarding and masking, but I actually still wanted a subdomain to access the old WordPress site.
In trying to create the subdomain, I went to General Settings in WordPress and changed the Site URL and Home URL to the subdomain name, and then immediately got locked out. I think this is because the subdomain was not yet made properly on GoDaddy. So, I go to CPanel and change the Site URL and Home URL back to the original.
Now I’m at a point where daraglobalarts.com points to nowhere. I think it’s because it’s pointing to too many things, but I’m not sure. I’ve waited 7+ hours for propogation / DNS but the url is still not working.
What else should I do on the WordPress side of things to fix this?
Thanks,

Hi amandagrowhappydesignscom,
GoDaddy helped with domain forwarding and masking, but I actually still wanted a subdomain to access the old WordPress site.
daraglobalarts.com is registered through GoDaddy so they will be the best people to speak to about making domain changes. They may also be able to help you access the old site hosted on their servers now the domain is pointing to Shopify instead.
So, I go to CPanel and change the Site URL and Home URL back to the original.
You are using the self hosted version of WordPress, WordPress.org:
We only have access to WordPress.com sites hosted on our own servers so I’m afraid we won’t be able to help you make any changes. If you need some advice, I recommend posting to the WordPress.org support forums instead:
https://wordpress.org/support/forums/
They are a great resource for self hosted sites :)
I’ve waited 7+ hours for propogation / DNS but the url is still not working.
DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to take effect, so that could be why daraglobalarts.com isn’t pointing to the correct site just yet. GoDaddy should be able to check on this and let you know if there any problems though.
Please let me know if you have questions about anything I’ve mentioned above.
