Trouble with updating WordPress. No contact with platform

  Can someone please help me? I have trouble with my WordPress page. It does not react, but my web site is still up and running. I think the problem is that I need to update to WordPress 3.8.1, but as it’s not reacting I can not to the update. Sooo how do I update to WordPress 3.8.1 without contact with my platform? (When I press Dashboard > Updates the page turns white. Actually, all pages are white…..) I’m thankful for all kind of help!

  By the way, I tried the step-by-step update, but I don’t understand why I would do the download-update when it’s running through the Internet…
