Trouble with Widgets, Blogrolls, Sidebars
-
I’m using Chaotic Space. The default sidebar showed Journal Search, Archives, Pages, and Categories, all of which I want to show. Whenever I try to add a widget, those things disappear and the blogroll pops up with default WordPress links, and the widget below it. Can’t I have the other categories with the blogroll and widgets, or is it either/or?

Sacred Path:
(1) How do I copy the contents of a widget into a new widget. We used to be able to do it Ctrl-C (copy) in the old widget and Ctrl-V (Paste) in the new widget. Now the Ctrl-C or highlight function has been disabled.
What should I do, short of rewriting the entire widget again. Don’t say it…that (2) is the solution!!!

PS: Because I now have your attention: I need to ask you why my site is not getting hits from wordpress. I get about 2500 hits per day…but ALL of them from external sources…How do I get listed on wordpress search….

The ctrl-c still works, but not in Internet Explorer. Firefox, Safari, Chrome are all OK. That means, if you can only have IE, you will have to rewrite them.
On the global tags thing, you will have to contact support. It doesn’t appear as if you are using too many (combined total of tags and categories must be 12 or less), but I didn’t look through all your posts. If you do have some posts with more than 12, that could be the issue.

Make sure and give them a URL to your blog and all details you can.

I have been trying to add a widget to my blog sidebar with this text:
<script type=”text/javascript”>
var irr_lang = ‘es’;
</script>
<script src=”http://fragments.irrepressible.info/js/fragment-180.js” type=”text/javascript”></script>
It vanishes all the time, so I have finally decided not to paste this widget to my sidebar. The problem now is that “var irr_lang = ‘es'” appears all the time in my siderbar and I CAN’T GET RID OF IT, not even deleting the text widget. Please, help. Thank you.

Try clearing your brower’s cache, logging out and then logging in again. If you’ve deleted the text widget, that should help.
You can’t add that code because it contains Javascript which is not allowed at WP.com.

I just checked and I don’t see the extra text in your sidebar, so I don’t think it’s a problem.

I am using Andreas09 theme and my blogroll is showing on both the left and right. I would prefer it to just show on the right so my RSS feeds can show on the left. Is there something I am doing wrong? I have been trying for days to figure this out?

blaqsage – please change the link in your user name over to your wordpress.COM blog, which I assume is here http://blaqsage.wordpress.com/ It is really hard to help you without a link to your blog. Follow the instructions here https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/how-to-make-your-name-link-to-your-blog?replies=54
Your blogroll is showing in both sidebars because you have included the widget in both sidebars. Take it out of one of them.
What picture are you trying to change?

Dashboard > design > widgets Choose which sidebar you are working with and click on the edit button for the widget. At the bottom of the widget, choose remove. And at the very bottom of the widgets list (on the right), click on save.
You might want to spend some time in the FAQ http://faq.wordpress.com/category/widgets/

Glad to help! But remember – the FAQ is your friend. You’ll find an awful lot of information in there.

Ok. I’ve been trying to add the “whos viewing now” widget. I did the script and everything, with the theme freshy, and it doesn’t come up. Only the gray thing thats separates widget shows up. What is wrong?

Which of the themes are the most widget friendly? Will ANY of them allow widgets from wists.com or my ultra important baby ticker??? (both are flash-based)
<object width=”120″ height=”180″><param name=”movie” value=”http://babystrology.com/tickers/baby-ticker-glass.swf?parent=Babby&year=2009&month=6&day=14&babycount=1″></param><param name=”wmode” value=”transparent”></param><embed src=”http://babystrology.com/tickers/baby-ticker-glass.swf?parent=Babby&year=2009&month=6&day=14&babycount=1″ type=”application/x-shockwave-flash” wmode=”transparent” width=”120″ height=”180″></embed></object>

@stroodle: if the “script” you are referring to is javascript, you can’t use it here at wordpress.COM. Try posting the code here between backticks (the key to the left of the number 1 on your keyboard) so we can take a look.
@tiltherewasyou – flash is not allowed here.
Both of you need to link your user names to your blogs. Go into your dashboard -> users -> your profile -> then scroll down to ‘contact info’. In the spot where it says ‘website’ fill in the address of your blog and save the changes.
Now… when you comment here and on other blogs, your name will link to your blog. If you do this before you post your request for help, it will allow forum volunteers to be able to help you quicker since they won’t have to ask you for a link and wait until you come back to post one.
