Troubles with Cutting and Pasting

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ve spent many hours attempting to cut and paste text from Microsoft Word into
Word Press. The moment I save my posts, they immediately are converted into something quite different and part of the text gets cut off. I’ve tried saving my Word documents as text only, only or in RTF format, which doesn’t work. Copying and pasting text from FrontPage isn’t a solution either. Unfortunately, I don’t know HTML, so I can’t input it directly that way. Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

Do you think it’s your mouse?

The problem seems to be with text that was copied from a website and pasted into an email which I then copied and pasted into a Word document (which I am now trying to paste into Word Press).

There’s your first problem. MS Word inserts some very strange formatting into text.

Try pasting into notepad (or similar), a plain text editor and then into your post. You can put formatting on the text once it’s in your post window.

Thank you! This is a big help!

i always copy and paste posts directly from word without any problems. however, i also insert all html codes in it, i don’t italicise or bold using word, so i don’t have any problems when my post appears in the blog.

Don’t use MS Word to copy from. If you want to do that, copy from word and paste in a notepad, and then copy from notepad and paste in your blog.. :)

    Hope this will help!

    Edit: It’s already said..

If you’re using Word, then I do hope you’re trying to paste into the Rich Text Editor. I don’t think the standard one will take the Word markup.

i have absolutely no problems pasting from word into my non-rich text editor.

  • Unknown's avatar

But as you already stated sulz, you don’t do any formatting before posting. This does make a difference!

How about “It works better if you use the rich text editor”? :)

Gotta admit. Me promoting TinyMCE is a rare occurance.

I not very geaky.. But am I the only know that a rich and non-rich editor is? – I know what the editor is, but what’s the difference between rich and non-rich??

The non-rich editor is just plain text. You still have all the funky buttons (well, most of them), but you don’t get to see exactly what it looks like in the editor window. WYSYWIG – What you see is what you get – with the Rich Editor, plain text and all the ugly formatting with the non-rich. First thing I did when I signed up was to turn off the Rich Editor.

    Hope this makes sense!

Although I keep hearing that WORD creates problems I haven’t experienced that and I have now made over 100 posts. I do absolutely no formatting in Word before posting into either the non-text rich editor or the text rich editor and I have no problems. So I can’t help but wonder – what’s the problem? I think it’s the formatting – dump it and see.

    Cornell.. Okay Thanks!
    It’s doesn’t make sence :-P
Is Rich-editor the same as the html-editor??

WYSYWIG – What you see is what you get.. HMM!?
WYSIWYG – What You See Is What You Get ;)

SloanE, yes. You can change between them at dashboard -> Users -> Your Profile -> Check box at the bottom of the page.

The rich editor is also called TinyMCE just for reference. It’s a common editor among Open Source projects like WordPress.

It does have a tendency to throw the occasional funky bit of code into a post so we usually try to direct new bloggers to the simple text editor where one just types and doesn’t have to worry about fonts and the like.

Oh okay.. Now I understand it.. Thanks :)
Just call me Sloane or Peter, that would be fine.. hehe

But thanks, now i know that..
