Troubleshoot Visual Editor
-
I am not able to use the visual editor on my blog. I have tried (the newest versions of) Chrome, Firefox, and Explorer, have tried clearing my cache/browsing data, etc. I have AdBlock Plus disabled. It worked properly on Friday on Explorer only and when I sat back down at my desk today — no changes made over weekend — it no longer worked.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I typed missing visual editor into the search box here where all support documentation is found http://support.wordpress.com
http://en.support.wordpress.com/?s=missing+visual+editor
results > http://en.support.wordpress.com/missing-visual-editor/1. If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please try upgrading or switching first.
2. If you are using an IE browser in compatibility mode please disable that mode. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1196-internet-explorer-compatibility-view-turn-off.html
3. If you are running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/
(a) Try clearing your browser’s cache http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050
If applicable see here for instructions on how to clear the cache for Chrome and Safari on the iPad:
http://browsers.about.com/od/howtousemobilebrowser1/ss/safari-ipad-clear-cache.htm
http://browsers.about.com/od/howtousemobilebrowser1/ss/How-To-Clear-Browsing-Data-In-Chrome-For-Ipad_6.htm(b) Make sure that you have both third-party cookies enabled and JavaScript enabled
http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/
http://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=12654(c) Disable all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily.
(d) Try enabling HTTPS: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
Add both *.wordpress.com and *.wp.com to your list of trusted sites under the Security tab. Make sure to uncheck the box for “Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone.” http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/#frequently-asked-questions
4. You can use this link to see if your flash is up to date. http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ If it’s not then go to http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/ and download and install the latest version of flash.
5. Try using another browser.
6. If you are not successful let us know:
(a) Exactly what kind of device you are using to connect to the internet and to WordPress.com.
(b) Exactly which browser (and version of it) you’re using by checking here if necessary http://www.whatbrowser.org/
(c) Exactly what you experience including what any error reports you receive state. -
I went through all the steps outlined by timethief above, so here are the answers to your questions.
(a) Using a Dell desktop with Intel Core i5-3570 64-bit OS Windows 7 Professional. Connected to internet via LAN.
(b) Have tried this on all three browsers, which are running most current: Chrome 33, Firefox 27, and IE 11.
(c) No error reports — when I click on a page to edit, I simply get a white, unclickable box in the visual editor; I can click into the Text editor.

Thanks for providing that information for Staff. I tagged this thread for their attention. Subscribe to the thread so your are notified when they respond.
-
-
You’re welcome and do note that Staff have a backlog so you will have to be patient while waiting.
-
-
No I don’t. Staff have a backlog. Staff work through all forum threads tagged for their attention and through all email support tickets in order of datestamps and timestamps – first posted first served, as would be expected.
Don’t bump your threads because it’s not in your best interest to post to them after they have been tagged for Staff help. When bloggers keep bumping any thread thinking they are going to get service from Staff more quickly they aren’t thinking straight because that moves the timestamps forward and it takes longer to get a response. The same is true if you email more than once the date moves forward and it takes longer to get help.
Bottom line: Patience is virtue.

@karaholmquist are you still running in to issues with this? If so, could you snap a screenshot of how the editor appears for you? You can then upload that image to the media library of your site.
Also, are you accessing things from a work or school connection?
-
Hi @andrewspittle. Yes, still having this issue. I uploaded the screenshot to my media library.
I am using a work connection.
-
Sorry for the delay. Do you also encounter this issue from a different computer within your work network? and does it also happen on your other blog posts, or blog?
