Troubling new Incoming Links
-
I probably shouldn’t be disturbed, but this is new to me. I used the tag “Family” yesterday, an unusual one for me, and immediately got four new inbound links from sites that apparently scrape blogs for the word family and then post links in their page, regardless of subject matter or relevance.
Felt a little creepy. “Covert Family”? These are the links for anyone who has an opinion and time to look at them.

[Links broken – drmike]
Anybody seen anything like this before?

We try not to give spammers or scrapers around here free links. :)
All four sites are hosted on liquidweb.com servers. Feel free to drop them a little love note. abuse ( at ) liquidweb ( dot ) com.
A quick hatcheck turns up both pros and cons. “We can’t police our own clients” on one hand although I do fine “We’ve canned the spammers” posts as well.
At least though it’s not the full article that they’re copying. You may want to do a forum search for scraper. It’s been discussed many times over.

Thanks drmike. Got your point about the links. And about the level of damage. And, finally about searching forums before starting new ones. Well done! I’ve learned a lot.

Actually I was just pointing you to teh other threads just to show you what we’ve discussed about on the topic. :)
