truncate assistance
-
I am trying to set up truncation for posts because of their lengths. I clicked the icon with 2 lines and dotted center line on a post. It shows a line, however, the entire post is still shown with no ‘read more’ option. Please help. BTW I am using wordpress.com.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The Reading Settings page summary setting changes the RSS feed display only and does not impact the posts on the site.
https://NAME_OF_BLOG.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-reading.php
*Replace NAME_OF_BLOG withe the actual name of your blog in that URL.
If you want to display only post excerpts on the front page or the blogs page of the blog followed by read more links, you can insert “the more tag” into each post prior to publication.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/The read more tag can be inserted once only into any post to change the front page or main page for posts display from full post to an excerpt. The split in the text does not display to you in preview mode but it will be there after the post is published.
Please Read Go Back and Edit Posts https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/#go-back-and-edit-posts and be sure to click Update to publish the after your editing.
Alternatively, you can switch to using a theme that automatically displays front page excerpts. This is a list of only SOME active themes on WordPress.com that use the excerpt instead of full post content. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/theme-with-automatic-excerpts?replies=13#post-1396410
For other ways to splitting content in posts see > https://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/

As it’s not likely that you are referring to https://joblinc.wordpress.com/ because there has been no content published there since September 3, 2013
please provide the exact URL of the site you are actually working on. -
In the event that you are referring to http://memphislibrary.org is hosted by City of Memphis that site is not hosted by wordpress.COM and we do not provide support for it.

Okay then the instructions I provided at https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/truncate-assistance?replies=5#post-2892989 do apply.

Thank you created a new blog and the “continue reading” showed. It wasn’t working on old posts through the edit feature. I may also consider changing the theme that automatically adds option.
Thank you so much for your assistance. It is really appreciated. -
Switching themes is recommended when you are using an old retired theme like that one s themes are retired when they no longer support all WordPress.COM features.
re: switching themes
Note that switching themes https://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/#switch-themes can be easily done, provided you are logged in as Admin under the same username account that registered the site. Themes are just “skins” on WordPress.COM hosted blogs.
The theme customizer https://en.support.wordpress.com/customizer/ provides a preview function for exactly that purpose ie. so you can view what a theme will appear like prior to changing one.
